Type 2: Publication Design

Typography II expands of the principles of hierarchy, information design, and best typographic practices established in Typography I. Sequence using elements of typographic rhythm, organization, and variation is addressed, allowing students to organize information over increasingly complex forms, from simple spreads, to a book, to a three-dimensional design. Students begin to understand how issues of output and technical production need to be anticipated and shape design solutions.

Projects in this course include the experimentation with typographic grids creating a two page spread and then, with increasing complexity, a 32 page cookbook. For this project, students write, design, create the imagery and execute a finished book.
